It just ain’t the same anymore.

She and I had a good long talk.

It’s a good feeling. Because our friendship started from long chats over the phone as well. As the years go by, we went to different schools, took up different courses and now plurge into different career paths. We are seemingly different. But luckily somehow something fundamental must be similar and that’s how our friendship can survive all these years.

And we had a long talk. And we talked about how tired we have gotten from all the stuff we have done for people whom we care for (we think haha) but don’t seem to care for us, stuff that they seem to just take for granted and never volunteer to do themselves.

I have never given for the mere sake of wishing to receive something in return. Ask not what others can do for you but what you can do for others – an adaptation of the famous quote from US former president John F. Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country.” This is something that I truly believe in.

But I guess when sometimes people just take and take, there’s just nothing much left anymore, isn’t it? It’s just like giving the rubber band an extra tug each day and one day, you are going to push it beyond its limits and it snaps right in your face.

I’m not asking for a free Porche or something unaffordable. In fact, the best stuff on earth are often the most inexpensive, the non-material, and the things that money can’t buy. I “volunteer” to do the stuff that I did because no one’s going to do anyway, so if I don’t do it and then what? What are we all going to do? Just sit around and wait for something to happen?

Nothing’s going to happen. This I promise you (sorry simply can’t resist cracking a joke in the midst of something serious haha). But unfortunately for you, you and you, our “services are terminating” with the effect of 01 Jan 2007. Not because our services are not satisfactory or there’s no need for our services anymore. But we are running out of resources. We survive on the “public’s donations” and it’s just insufficient for us to run anymore.

This is not a plead for permission to terminate. It’s just a notice. So take note if things are not the same anymore next year, because we’re forced to, before our souls run dry.
